Western Pop VS K-Pop

After knowing more about Korean culture, I want to find out what is the different between the western pop music and korean pop music. Is there any similarity of them?

Western Pop
Pop music is define as "a body of music which is distinguishable from popular, jazz and folk musics". It is seem usually as an existing and developing separately. It is describe to a distinct genre, aimed at a youth market, often characterized as a softer alternative to rock and roll.
The term "pop song," is first recorded as being used in 1926 in the sense of a piece of music "having popular appeal". Throughout its development, pop music has absorbed influences from most other genres of popular music. Early pop music drew from the sentimental ballad to soul music to jazz to dance music to rap.

Musicologists is say to identify the following characteristics as a typical pop music genre:
- a focus on the individual song or singles, rather than on extended works or albums
- an aim of appealing to a general audience, rather than to a particular sub-culture or ideology
- an emphasis on craftsmanship rather than formal "artistic" qualities
- an emphasis on recording, production, and technology, over live performance
- a tendency to reflect existing trends rather than progressive developments
- much pop music is intended to encourage dancing, or it uses dance-oriented beats or rhythms

The song will be mostly
- two and a half to three and a half minutes in length
- noticeable rhythmic element, a mainstream style and simple structure.
- focus on melodies and catchy hooks
- beats and melodies tend to be simple, with limited harmonic accompaniment.

K-Pop
K-pop often features young performers and is an abbreviation for Korean pop music (also referred to as Kayo or Gayo music), specifically from South Korea. The pop music of Korea which was constantly developing was arranged by many musicians.
In the 1970s and 1980s many musicians appeared, thats when k-pop comes about. The emergence of the group Seo Taiji and Boys in 1992 marked a turning point for Korean popular music, as the group incorporated elements of American popular musical genres of the 1990s. South Korea starts its own form of hip hop artists, including MC Mong, Epik High,Dynamic Duo, and Big Bang. Their k-pop dance craze were often a big deal in the whole country and further because everyone was crazy about them. Because of their addictive sound and inspired dance crazes makes them become very famous even in the other countries.

K-pop is similar to American pop music, with R&B, dance, and hip-hop being very popular genres in the 2000s. However, unlike American pop music, which had most of its boy bands and girl groups either break up or informally disband, bubblegum pop is still very popular in South Korea.
*bubblegum pop is a genre of pop music whose classic period ran from 1967 to 1972. It is pop music contrived and marketed to appeal to pre-teens and teenagers, is produced in an assembly-line process, driven by producers, often using faceless singers and has an upbeat "bubblegum" sound.
The year 2007 was marked with the release of numerous girl and boy bands, though only a few managed to top the charts. Despite new bands debuting, physical sales for CDs have become increasingly low, due to the stagnation of the K-pop industry. The beginning of 2008 saw the rise of electronica dominance in the K-pop scene, influenced by the release of Big Bang's mini-album Always, which heavily featured the genre. Other artists also start followed the trend which make them popular right now.
